This is true. How others treat you is a reflection of how you have taught them to do so. People usually behave based on what they know or think is appropriate. So if you want things to be done differently, you need to tell them that. Let it be known to them how you should be treated. It is perfectly fine. You can tell them in various ways – verbally expressing it to them, by your actions (subtly or otherwise) and the way you conduct yourself. The last one is a personal favourite. Minimal work and lasting effect. Do not be afraid to let others know how to treat you regardless of who they are. It will even earn you respect in their eyes. At the very least, you would be happier.
