If everybody would get into their heads that the only person that he or she has any power to control over is him/herself, the world will have fewer waste and be of a high level of efficiency all around. The practise of comparing yourself to another serves to either support the idea of self-pity, not working hard enough or being satisfied in mediocrity. One might argue that comparing can also work in one’s favour in that it motivates the individual to work harder. But that is usually not sustainable. You see, what happens when you got no one else to compare yourself to? Do you then retire? Or what if your potential is beyond what the people that you are measuring yourself up to are not even able to reach? Your chances of succeeding is much better when you decide to stop comparing yourself with others and just focus on doing you well.
